Dr. Asha Ramsakal is a distinguished academic physician and medical leader whose career reflects a lifelong commitment to excellence in internal medicine, education, and service.

Originally from Trinidad and Tobago, Dr. Ramsakal rose from humble beginnings to become the first physician in her family. She is also an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine. For more than twenty-five years, she has instructed medical students, interns, and residents, guided by a clear mission: to develop board-certified physicians who are clinically skilled, ethical, and deeply compassionate.

Dr. Ramsakal is widely published, with more than thirty peer-reviewed articles and several book chapters, including contributions in oncologic emergencies and inpatient antibiotic selection. Her scholarly work underscores a dedication to advancing evidence-based medicine and improving patient outcomes.

Her extensive administrative and clinical leadership includes serving as Chair of Medicine at H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center, Medical Director of the East Region Hospitalist Program for BayCare Medical Group, and Chief of Medicine at St. Joseph’s Hospital South in Riverview, Florida.

Dr. Ramsakal graduated with highest honors from Nova Southeastern College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed her internal medicine residency at the University of South Florida College of Medicine, where she also served as Chief Medicine Resident at the James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital. She is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Her honors include multiple University of South Florida Outstanding Resident Teaching Awards at Moffitt Cancer Center, the Florida Chapter of the American College of Physicians Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award, recognition as a Top Internist in Florida by Top Doctors Magazine, and lifetime membership in America’s Registry of Outstanding Professionals. Beyond her professional roles, Dr. Ramsakal is deeply committed to service, providing annual voluntary medical care to underserved communities in Honduras and Guatemala.
