Epic Specialty and Emergency Pet Care

Dr. Cristina Metral has been named one of our Veterinarians of the Year for two years in a row. She first became interested in veterinary medicine after completing the Vet Assistant program at her high school in Pembroke Pines, Florida. Afterwards, she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from the University of Florida in just three years. She continued her veterinary journey at St. George’s University College of  Veterinary Medicine, where she graduated magna cum laude. She completed a small animal medicine and surgery rotating internship at a nearby specialty facility, and she has been practicing as an emergency clinician ever since.

Throughout her career, Dr. Metral has been particularly interested in wildlife, exotic, and zoological medicine. This passion has led to many opportunities including additional training at Alabama House Rabbit Society, Belize Zoo, ZooTampa, Zoo Miami, Busch Gardens, Amakhala Game Reserve in South Africa, and exotics radiology through Antech Imaging Services. She is honored to have had these opportunities, and she continues to use this knowledge to help any exotic pet through an emergency. She has been published in both Journal of Exotic Pet Medicine and Journal of American Veterinary Medical Association.

Currently, Dr. Metral is proud to be one of the founding emergency clinicians at Epic Pet Care, a locally-owned emergency and specialty clinic. Through Epic, she has been able to provide quick, efficient, coordinated care between all specialties to give each patient the best outcome possible. Dr. Metral knows what its like to have a fur-baby in the hospital, and she strives to make the experience as stress-free as possible.
