Dr. Jodie Smith is now proud to call Clearwater, Florida her “furever” home with her husband, son, 10-year-old black lab and two kitties! For almost 3 years Metzler Veterinary Hospital and their wonderful clients and patients have made her transition from lifelong New Yorker and leaving her practice of 23 years (Astoria Veterinary Group), not only smooth, but like finding a new extended family.
She is so honored to be named one of veterinarians of the year for the second year in a row.
She has had many roles in her veterinary career, from new grad to associate to experienced mentor to practice owner. Each having its own rewards.
Since joining Metzler, she continues her love of challenging cases and has earned her certification in echocardiography and abdominal ultrasound, expanding the clinics diagnostic capabilities and allowing her clients to be able to stay where they have trust and comfort in their primary care clinic. Pain management, palliative/hospice care and end of life care are also close to her heart. So she is continuing to offer new and innovative options to help those that may be the most vulnerable.
“As pet parents have realized the benefits of preventative care and their pets have become family, these furbabies are living longer lives. This means we will see more issues that come with age, like organ changes, immune and inflammatory issues, arthritis, and cancers. Helping guide owners through diagnosing, treating and focusing on quality of life at all times is my passion and goal!”
Dr. Smith wants to return the acceptance and trust of the Clearwater/Tampa area with providing a place where their furbabies are family, “from cradle to grave”, “where we can guide them and hold their hands through the joy and the tough times.”
