Bill Smoak is an equity partner with Alvarez, Thompson & Smoak, P.A., helping lead the firm’s Tampa office. A highly experienced trial attorney, Bill focuses his practice on commercial transportation law, negligent security, premises liability, food safety, product liability, and professional malpractice. He provides strategic counsel to business owners and manages catastrophic losses from investigation through verdicts and appeals, having successfully first chaired 50+ cases involving wrongful death and catastrophic injuries throughout Florida and beyond.
Following service in the Marine Corps as an Amtrac crewman, Bill earned dual degrees in psychology and criminology from the University of South Florida. He received his Juris Doctor and MBA from Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law.
Beyond his legal practice, Bill is an accomplished entrepreneur in Tampa Bay’s vibrant restaurant industry. He is general counsel and a member of the Board of Directors of the successful Ciccio Restaurant Group and part owner of Jay Luigi Italian, Water + Flower, and Taco Dirty restaurants. As spring brings the season of hope for new beginnings, that is what Bill hopes to achieve through his dedicated work on the Board of Heart of Adoptions Alliance and his active support of the Heart Gallery, two organizations that work tirelessly to bring forever homes to children stuck in the endless loop of the foster care system.
Bill is a proud member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) and the American College of Transportation Attorneys (ACTA), and he regularly lectures on complex legal issues across many areas of law. A proud 9th‑generation native of St. Augustine, Florida, Bill is a true Floridian. Bill and his wife Tiffany live in South Tampa with their daughter Jacquelyn.
