For Dr. Melissa Fickey, psychiatry is far more than a profession—it is a calling rooted in compassion, curiosity, and a lifelong desire to help others heal. A Tampa native, Dr. Fickey has spent her life immersed in the community she now proudly serves. Fascinated by human resilience and the stories that shape people’s lives, she pursued a career in psychiatry to help children, adolescents, and adults overcome challenges and rediscover hope. After completing medical school, specialized psychiatric training, and a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, she combined clinical expertise with a vision for more personalized mental healthcare.
In 2014, Dr. Melissa Fickey founded Embracing Life Wellness Center with a mission to make exceptional mental health care more accessible, compassionate, and personalized. What began as a vision for patient-centered psychiatric care has grown into a leading practice serving individuals and families throughout Florida. In addition to her clinical leadership, Dr. Fickey serves as an Assistant Professor at the University of Tampa and is a national speaker and educator for NeuroStar TMS. Among her most notable accomplishments is helping present NeuroStar TMS treatment data to the FDA, contributing to expanded access to this innovative therapy for adolescent patients across the country.
Dr. Fickey’s philosophy is simple: every person deserves to feel heard, valued, and empowered. She believes meaningful healing happens when clinical excellence is paired with genuine human connection. Whether caring for patients, mentoring providers, or advocating for mental health awareness, her focus remains on improving lives and reducing the stigma surrounding mental health treatment. She also supports local organizations, including The Spring, helping women and children impacted by domestic violence.
While her professional accomplishments are extensive, family remains at the center of her life. As the proud mother of a nine-year-old daughter and three-year-old son, she treasures spontaneous dance parties, family adventures, and creating meaningful experiences with loved ones. A self-described foodie and enthusiastic planner, Dr. Fickey believes wellness is about treating the whole person. Through Embracing Life Wellness Center, she continues to fulfill her mission: helping individuals build healthier, happier, and more fulfilling lives.
