Hughes Law Partner and Trial Attorney Hilda Millan brings a thoughtful combination of advocacy, preparation, and genuine compassion to her personal injury practice. Born and raised in El Paso, Texas, Millan developed an appreciation for the law early through her father, an attorney whose dedication to his clients inspired her own path. Although she initially knew only that she wanted to practice law, she eventually discovered that trial work offered the ideal intersection of advocacy, strategy, and storytelling.
Millan came to Tampa to attend law school, expecting to leave after graduation. Instead, the city became home. After earning her bachelor’s degree in English from Penn State and graduating cum laude from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School, she began her career representing plaintiffs in assignment of benefits and windshield litigation. Her experience working alongside seasoned litigators sparked a desire to take on a greater courtroom role. Following Florida’s 2023 tort reform, she joined Hughes Law, where she immersed herself in personal injury litigation and continued developing her trial skills.
Today, Millan represents individuals injured because of another’s negligence, guiding clients from the earliest stages of their cases through trial when necessary. Since joining Hughes Law, Millan has recovered multiple millions of dollars in settlements and verdicts on behalf of her clients. Her work has also earned professional recognition, including being named a National Trial Lawyers Top 40 Under 40 Civil Plaintiff Trial Lawyer and a member of Lawyers of Distinction. Her philosophy is grounded in the belief that “credibility is earned,” with preparation, honesty, attention to detail, and integrity serving as the foundation of effective advocacy. She measures success not only by case outcomes, but by the trust she builds with clients, colleagues, and the community.
Outside the courtroom, Millan stays active through fitness, travel, and time with family and friends. She also enjoys exploring Tampa Bay’s waterfront, restaurants, and events, with Bar Taco among her local favorites. A former collegiate volleyball player, she credits the sport with teaching her discipline, teamwork, and competitiveness—qualities that continue to shape her legal career. Looking ahead, she hopes to take on increasingly complex trials, pursue board certification, and mentor the next generation of attorneys.
