Tampa TMJ
A jaw that clicks through dinner. A headache that keeps returning. An ache near the ear that no one can quite explain. For many people, these symptoms become part of daily life long before they discover that help may begin with a closer look at the jaw.
Dr. Doraida Leon has made that closer look her life’s work. At Tampa TMJ, the practice she founded, she listens for the details patients sometimes struggle to put into words: when pain began, what makes it worse, and what they miss being able to do comfortably. Her goal is to understand the person as carefully as the symptoms.
Born in Cuba and fluent in English and Spanish, Dr. Leon brings a welcoming, personal style to a field that can feel complicated. Her path has taken her from dental school at the University of Pittsburgh to an advanced general dentistry residency at the University of Florida, specialty training in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics at Jacksonville University, and further study of temporomandibular disorders and orofacial pain at UCLA.
That breadth of training informs how she evaluates jaw pain, facial pain, headaches, limited mouth opening, and symptoms after an accident. She also considers sleep and airway-related concerns when relevant, helping patients understand when additional evaluation or coordinated care may be useful.
There is no single treatment script at Tampa TMJ. Depending on the patient, options may include conservative therapies, custom oral appliances, noninvasive technology, therapeutic injections, or regenerative treatments such as platelet-rich fibrin.
For Dr. Leon, the most meaningful moment is often a simple one: a patient who finally feels heard and understands what may be contributing to their pain. From there, they can make informed decisions together about a path toward greater comfort and function.
